3 Reasons Your Air Conditioner Isn’t Blowing Cold Air

Air conditioners can fall victim to any number of different problems over years of normal use. Some problems are common, some are rare, some are strange, and all are frustrating. One of the most frustrating problems you can run into is having an air conditioner that doesn’t actually blow cold air. There are a number of possible reasons why this might be happening, all of which will require professional repair services to correct. Still, it’s a good idea to know what the causes are. Read on for 3 reasons why your air conditioner isn’t blowing cold air.

Broken Air Handler Motor

If your air conditioner isn’t blowing any air, but seems to still be operating, it’s a pretty clear sign that you have an air handler problem. The air handler is the part that is responsible for circulating air through your home. Without it, your air conditioner can’t really cool your home. It’s possible that an electrical shortage is preventing the air handler motor from turning on. It is also possible that the motor itself is burned out, as can sometimes happen.

Frozen Evaporator Coil

The evaporator coil can occasionally freeze over under certain circumstances, cutting off its access to your home’s air supply. Without the ability to siphon thermal energy from your home’s air, your air conditioning system cannot cool your home. This one is pretty easy to check, thankfully. If you see ice forming on your air conditioner, that’s probably the reason that you aren’t getting any cold air.

Refrigerant Leak

This one is the most dangerous problem for your air conditioner. If you have a leak in your refrigerant line, it will drain the system of the fluid that it needs to siphon heat from your air. If the air conditioner goes without refrigerant for long enough, it will break down completely. Call for repairs if you notice that liquid is dripping from your air conditioner.
