Common Commercial Air Conditioning Problems

Summer is here, and staying cool at the office is just as important as in your own home. Commercial air conditioning systems are much larger and more powerful than their residential counterparts. However, they do have some similarities in the kinds of problems that they can develop. The last thing you want is for your commercial system to fail on you in the middle of a hot summer day. So, if you notice any of the following signs, call us right away.

Uneven Cooling

Some variance in temperature between rooms is to be expected with any forced air system. However, one room should not be significantly warmer or colder than the others. This could indicate a thermostat problem, but it could also mean that there is an issue with your ducts or your air handler. Either way, this is something that requires immediate professional attention.

Higher Bills

If your operating costs for your commercial air conditioner are rising month over month, but you aren’t using the system any more than normal, there may be a problem with it. Typically, this means that something is interfering with the output of your system, forcing it to work longer in order to achieve the same temperature changes. That’s where the higher cost comes from. This is another warning sign that you should take action on immediately.

Short-Cycling

If your system is turning itself on and off every couple of minutes, it’s short-cycling. This is an extremely damaging behavior, which both makes your system ineffective at cooling your building and increases the chances of a breakdown. It is typically caused either by thermostat problems, or by a damaged compressor. Call us immediately if you notice your system doing this.
